Leather is sweeping across magazines and websites alike as we head into 2015. Since the cooler days of late fall through the holidays, leather has been seen on a variety of people for the past few months. Some of the most recognizable leather trends include leather jackets and leggings seen both as dressy and casual. More popular with women, but also seen worn by men, the trend has consumed the winter so far. Why shouldn't it? It can be layered in the fall for those light chilly days or paired with heavier layers in the winter to keep warm. We are in the prime times of winter across the U.S. right now, so the trend continues to keep its place in top magazines such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar or seen on style.com and the current trends section. However, as the weather grows warmer and the spring approaches, I predict the leather trend will begin to diminish by the time April rolls around and people are bringing out their white jeans and tops. Since leather is made with darker tones, usually seen in blacks and browns, the dark coloring will hurt the trend more so than the look of it as spring arises. This semester I'm going to examine the acceptance of the leather trend by consumers as times change and winter fades, so stay tuned for more looks to come.
